Best tutorial I've ever seen

What an awesome flash tutorial. When I looked at the titel, I didn't expected that much, OMFG!: A Flash Tutorial sounded like some n00b tutorial to me. When I checked it out, I was amazed by how cool this one is. I can imagine it won a daily first.

Graphics: The whole menu looked awesome. I liked all the pretty light colors you used. The buttons, backgrounds, everything looked very nice. I guess I can't give you anything else then a 10 for this. Good job.

Sounds/Music: You added three different songs, I liked that. The songs were not great or anything, but they were good and I think they suited this submission pretty well. You also added some sounds for when you moved your mouse over the buttons, that was also nice. I think the sounds of this submission were very good, the only way to improve it is probably to add some more songs, but it's fine the way it is now.

Interactivity: There are so many options in this. I've never seen a flash tutorial with so many explanations about how to make things. The explanations were good and not too hard to understand. The most impressive things to me were the volume button and the clock. This is one of the first submissions were I see those two things. The only thing you need to work on is that when I press the buttons 1,2 and 3, all the three songs start playing. You should make song 1 stop when I press number 2 etc. I'm still very impressed by the interactivity so 10 out of 10 for that.

Overall 9 out of 10, 5 out of 5. Well I have to admit, this was one of the best flash tutorials I've ever seen in the six months that I've been here. If I ever decide to work with flash, I'll try to find this tutorial again and hopefully it'll help me a lot. Anyway, congrats with the daily first. I think you putted a lot of effort in this one, so you deserved it. Keep up the excellent work and good luck with any other future projects.

Smoking-Chimney responds:

What an awesome review! Honestly you looked at everything and said the good and bad things and it helps. Although I'm not planning another tutorial, I'm sure this review will help me with other projects! Thanks a lot!

Nice, but I dunno if it deserved a daily first

Lol, I can still remember those movies from WWF. God, that was so fake, but it was cool to watch anyway. I think this game was pretty good, but I dunno if it deserves a daily first.

Graphics: The graphics were decent. They could use some improvement at some places. Especially when they are fighting or attacking the other guy. That went a bit too quick and it didn't looked very good. I think the first scene looked the best. Those two guys were drawn pretty well. You should work a bit on the second scene.

Sounds/music: I already saw at the author comments that other people complained about the bad quality of the sounds. Well, I noticed the same thing so I guess it hasn't been updated yet. Too bad, cause of course the rating is a bit lower now. Once the game is updated, I guess it will be a bit easier to understand what is said. I had some trouble with that, maybe you should add some subtitles as well. As for the music, well the music suited this game pretty well. I wouldn't change it if I were you.

Violence: I was expecting some more violence in this actually. It were just two or three pretty short scenes. I think some more fights would be nice. Blood isn't really necessary, but I wouldn't mind if you added it. In the fights-scenes you could add some chairs, hammers and stuff that they always use in those fights. I think that would be pretty funny.

Interactivity: I was expecting something completely different from this. I was actually expecting that you could choose a character, choose an opponent and could then fight against him. Instead it was something completely different. I kinda liked the idea. There were some pretty cool things you could say, like "Can you show me your tits?", lol. Anyway, the controls were very easy, just click and watch. Normally I don't like those kinda games, but this one was alright.

Overall 7 out of 10, 3 out of 5. Like I said, I don't really think this deserves a daily first. It was deffinatly a good game, but I guess I didn't liked it as much as others did. Anyway, I did liked the idea in this and I hope the next part will have some improvements on the sounds and graphics. Also at some more scenes, three ain't that much.

MessiaH responds:

Thanks for your review.

I wouldn't say that it doesn't deserve Daily Feature, since it won and all, but I was certainly very taken aback by it. I guess it just proves there's still enough love for the WWE around here.

I liked the idea of this game

I liked the idea of this game. I kinda enjoyed playing it although it got a bit boring after trying for 5 times. When do you beat the game by the way? After you destroyed all your enemies or something? or when you reached certain amounts of food, money and military strength? I mean, it seems like the kinda game that you can play for hours with having millions of dollars and food and all that. Meh.. whatever, here's some explanation about some of the ratings:

Graphics: The graphics were not bad. Not really the best I've seen, but I've seen a lot worse as well. All the buildings looked pretty good, but I didn't liked the island itself for two reasons: One: The shape of it, it was nearly a square. That looked pretty bad, I would give it a different shape next time. Two: It had no details at all. No rivers, trees, mountains, beaches, nothing. The least thing you could do is at some green and blue spots on it so that it looks like a forest and a lake. Anyway, except for the island itself, the graphics were not bad.

Sound/Music: Very few sounds and no music at all. That's a pretty bad thing, cause this is very important in every submission. I know that I have my own CD's, but I think it would have been better if you added some music yourself. You should've added some sounds for: When you build/destroy a building. When you lose the game. For the arrow keys and maybe the buildings should have their own sounds as well (exam.: You hear a cow for the farm).

Interactivity: This was one of the best parts, there were plenty of options and plenty of things to do. Also everything worked as it should work, I couldn't find any bugs at all. The menuscreen didn't looked great, but at least it had some instructions. Maybe they were a bit too long, I wasn't really that interested in reading them.

Other Stuff: I think you should add some more places to build on and some more buildings. A bank so that you can get a lot of money would be very usefull. Especially since the silo makes you go bankrupt in no time (I had 6 factories and that was still not enough). A theater/stadium/museum etc. to keep your citizens happy would also be nice.

Overall 6 out of 10, 3 out of 5. The idea was very good, the game itself was a little bit dissapointing. You should add some improvements at some places and then resubmit it. I didn't really had the feeling that I wasted my time playing this game, like I said, I kinda enjoyed it. Anyway, I'd say keep it up and good luck with any other future projects.

Johnyul responds:

Thanks.

One joke no one seemed to get was that the island was supposed to be all sand and no resources but whatever.

I was thinking about putting in a bank, maybe I should, but you should build some hotels, they work better for money and they don't cause unrest either.

Nice version of tanks

A nice version of tanks. I had a lot of fun playing this. It could still use a little bit more work at some places though. An option to have a game against 1,2 or 3 computers would be pretty cool. You could add an easy, medium and hard mode then. Some more weapons would also be cool. You could add some weapons like: A double bomb (both shots with less power then the normal bomb off course), a cluster bomb, a lazer/machine gun etc. Anyway, some explanation about some of the ratings:

Graphics: The blue background and the clouds looked pretty good. The clouds were moving in the direction the wind blows, I liked that. It's not that important, but it's just a nice extra little thing. The explosions also looked pretty good, the tanks didn't looked bad as well, I think there is not much wrong with the graphics. The only way to improve it is by adding some more details like trees, snow and stuff like that.

Sounds/music: Also not much wrong with the sounds and the music. The shooting and the explosion sounds were excellent. The music was not really what I would call "Great", but it suited the game pretty well I think. You should've added some different music for when somebody won though. When the game was over the same music just kept on playing, that was kinda boring.

Interactivity: The controls were not diffecult at all, just the arrowkeys, space and the mouse to use a special weapon. That's good. It also had a menuscreen, everything worked fine there. You only had to option to dissable wind, I think you should add a stage select there and maybe something to change the background music or to turn the sound on and off. During the game, I sometimes dug holes that were too deep and my tank disappeared at the bottom of the screen. I pressed teleport then, but it putted me back inside the hole. That was kinda weird, I hope you'll fix this. Some other thing that was kinda weird was that I could shoot with a power of over 2000. That was kinda unnecesarry, it took about one minute before the bomb finally hit the ground. You should make some kinda limit, 250 or something.

Overall I'd give this game 7 out of 10, 3 out of 5. It was a nice version of tanks and I think it stands a chance to win an award, we'll see tomorrow. Anyway, like I said, it could still use some work at some places, but I enjoyed playing it. Well keep up the good work and good luck with any other future projects.

HalfLifeDarkness responds:

Hmm.. Iv'e never seen the bug you're describing.
Tell me, you said you were at the bottom of the screen, my speculation is that you fired a bomb, and the ground shaking caused your avatar to appear below the screen, do you think that that is what could've happened?

Good game

I don't think this game sucked, I think it was good actually. Especially since this is only your first game. The game had nice sounds and background music, different levels that got harder and harder, the graphics didn't looked bad and the controls were not that diffecult. These are things every game needs to have in my opinion. There were some things that could be a bit better though. Here are some suggestions:

One: The game froze a couple of times so I had too start all over again. This was very annoying, I hope you'll find a way to fix this. This could make the score go down a lot you know. Two: When I fell into the water, the game didn't started over again or I didn't got any screen that said: Game Over. I could still see the whole level and the music kept on playing. I hope you'll fix this as well. Three: You should add some instructions at the menuscreen. Not that they were that diffecult to understand, but it's just nice if it has any. Four: A couple of enemies would be nice. I saw some more different stuff like boulders and TNT when you got further into the game, but some enemies would be cool. The main character is a mage so you could make a couple of spells to defeat enemies with. Five: Just some small things, something at the top of the screen which tells you in which level you are would be nice. Also, give the main character a couple of lives and add that somewhere in the screen as well.

Overall I'd give this 7 out of 10, 3 out of 5. I think you've done a good job here. It was a nice little game and it didn't bored me at all (not that I've played it for that long, but I've played it for a couple of minutes). I hope you'll fix all the things that didn't worked as they should work and then resubmit it. Anyway, keep up the good work and good luck with any other future projects.

thanks. next i hope will be better.

Loved that OoT song

It was decent, not really something that would deserve an award or something, but still it was nice. A little bit above the average of the normal dress up game I would say. Still, as with almost every dress up game, it's a bit boring.

The print button was something that was pretty new to me, I haven't seen that in any submission before. The music buttons didn't seem to work directly, I had to click a couple of times before the music started. I really liked the Ocarina of Time music, it was a pretty relaxing song, reminds me of christmas somehow. Too bad it stopped after a while, but I think I played it over again 5 or 6 times. I really liked that song, so I gave an 8 for sounds. Another good part of this were the drawings. All the items looked very good. Only Link looked a bit weird, I think it would be better if you took Link from Ocarina of Time. It could also use a better background. I think something with some kind of shop at the background would suit this movie pretty well. So for the graphics I gave this a 7. As for the rest, well some more things to dress Link up with are always good as long as the screen doesn't become a mess. Some masks from Majora's Mask, a Deku stick, a bow etc.

Overall I'd give this submission 6 out of 10, 3 out of 5. The reason I vote so high (a lot higher then the current score) is cause I liked the OoT song so much and cause the graphics are pretty good (I think you should try to make a Zelda movie someday). Anyway, like I said before, the game was kinda decent. A little bit higher then the average dress up game. Well keep it up and good luck with any other future projects.

ejtesta responds:

Thanks dude. Well, this is just the first version, i'm going to be updating it constantly, but thanks for the advice. I wish I could make a Zelda movie, but I'm horrible at everything exept drawings and actionscripting that i unfortunately can't! I wish I could, I guess I could do one of those movies using the SNES version and having link battle or something. IDK. THanks

Pretty cool, but got boring soon

This was a pretty cool game although it got boring pretty soon. I think the reason for this was because well, there were not that many options. You could only shoot in the right or the left corner and had a spell when you scored the first one. I think you should add something so that I can shoot in the left-topcorner and right-topcorner as well and also something so that I can shoot through the middle (and can also shoot high or low). Some more types of spells would also be cool, like you can earn spells by scoring three in a row. You can add spells that freeze the keeper, spells that make the ball go to the left first, but then suddenly go to the right corner, spells so that the ball goes right through the keeper etc. Those would make the game a lot more fun. Anyway, here is an explanation about the ratings.

Graphics: The graphics looked pretty good and the game was not choppy(I hope you know what I mean). Nothing wrong with the graphics, 8 out of 10. Style: I didn't really liked the style in this. The dark colors make the game look a bit boring, 5 out of 10. Sounds: The sounds and the music were very good. I liked those crowd sounds you added, the menuscreen music was also nice, 8 out of 10. Violence: No violence in this and it isn't necessary. 0 out of 10. Interactivity: Well not that much, just clicking if you want the ball to go to the left or the right. As I already mentioned above, there should be some more options in this. 6 out of 10. Humor: Well the troll looked pretty funny, but I don't think this was made for the humor either. Still I'll give it 4 out of 10 for humor.

So overall I'd give this game 7 out of 10, 3 out of 5. It wasn't bad, but I've seen better Games-of-Gondor games. Anyway, keep it up and good luck with any other future projects.

Thanks alot for your constructive critism, I'll take notice incase I make a second version of the game. I appreciate that you took the time to describe a detailed comment instead of having one word comments. Thanks.

Awesome game

An awesome game, really one of the best games I've played here on Newgrounds. Also one of the very few games that I've played for about an hour, that only happened with three other games. I think this fully deserved all the important award you can win. 4.65, I've never seen a submission getting close to that score. Well I know that in a couple of weeks the score could be more close to 4.40, but I wouldn't be suprised if it was still in the top 50 next year.

Graphics: Normally I would have voted 6 or 7 cause it were sprites (right?). But everything looked very good alltogether here, the background, the enemies, the attacks, everything so 9 out of 10. There were also a couple of drawings on the menuscreen and they looked pretty good as well. Only thing that didn't looked very good was when you fired and then moved when you were that blue airplane, I hope you know what I mean. Style: I liked the drawingstyle at the menuscreen as I said above. 8 out of 10. Sound: Great music and sounds. They suited the movie well and I don't think there could be better music for this, 9 out of 10. Violence: No blood and all that, but that wouldn't suit the game anyway. There were a lot of explosions in this, 7 out of 10. Interactivity: Everything worked as it should work in this. Menuscreen worked good and I couldn't discover anything while I was playing, 9 out of 10. Humor: Well wasn't made for the humor, don't think this rating needs an explanation, 0 out of 10.

Overall I'd give this game 9 out of 10, voted 5 for this. Like I said before one of the best games I've played on NG. You really thought of everything, a save option, powerups, you can even decide the controls yourself. Still I don't give it a 10 for some reason, I only gave one submission a 10 so far though. Anyway, I added this to my favorites and I think I will play it again a lot of times. Well keep up the excellent work and good luck with any other future projects.

Go0gley responds:

Yep, I'm aware of how choppy the blue laser is, so next time, I'm gonna redesign it. ;) I'm glad you like this - and thanks for the support! ^_^

A good game

This was a pretty good game. I guess The Adventures of Robin Hood will be submitted soon, am I right? Well a minigame will always improve the score, sometimes it improves the score a lot. This minigame alone got a score of 2.39 so I think the actual movie might even win an award. Anyone back to the game.

Graphics: the graphics looked pretty good in this, I liked the drawings. Would be better if you actually saw an arrow flying, but that doesn't really matter at all, 7 out of 10. Style: I liked the drawing style, 7 out of 10. Sound: too bad my sound doesn't work cause there's something wrong with my speakers, so I can't judge on that. Most people gave it a 5, so I'll just give it 5 out of 10 as well then. Violence: no violence in this, but that's allright. A lot of violence wouldn't suit Robin Hood anyway, 1 out of 10. Interactivity: it was a bit hard to aim. It was a bit annoying that you could only shoot when those two arrows crossed eachother. Good that it had a menu-screen although the instructions were not that much of a help, 6 out of 10. Humor: wasn't made for the humor, so 0 out of 10.

Overall I'd give this game 6 out of 10. A good game if you ask me. I think many people will like this extra thing when you submit the real movie. Maybe you could add some more different targets (like targets that are not moving from the right to the left, but up and down) and some rich people (that look a bit stupid), but if it's too much trouble then just keep it this way. Anyway, I'll keep an eye out for The Adventures of Robin Hood, I hope for you that it'll win an award. Keep it up and good luck with making that movie.

SuperBokey responds:

Hehe wow thanks for that review!! But about the mouse thing, you dont have to wait for them both to cross to shoot, its supposed to have a realistic feel, if you try and move and shoot at the same time, chances are your not going to be very accurate, but if you wait a sec and let them line up, then you have a good chance of getting a bullseye! :D

Still misses a couple of things

Well it was a pretty cool game, looks a bit like Demonic Defence, but I don't care cause I like that game. Not much stuff that needs improvement here, only the graphics I think. However, there are some things that should be added in my opinion. The game didn't got boring too soon, but after playing it for about 10 minutes... I got bored. If you add some stuff, it could be a lot more fun and will not get boring after 10 minutes. Here are some suggestions:

First of all, add some music and sounds. That's one of the most important things in a game or a movie and I think I would've given it a higher score if it had music. Second, you need to add some more enemies. Only 2 enemies isn't much, I think it would be cool if you also added flying enemies and some vehicles. Third, add more stuff to buy. A couple of ideas: Gunners, Lazer Canon's, A special weapon that can only be used once in every level, Mines, Walls, Guard Towers, People that start to run and blow themselves up (would be cool) etc. I think these things will make the game a lot better. Fourth, different worlds maybe? Every level has it's own background.. that would be pretty cool. You could also add some levels with water then and have some boats as enemies. Fifth, the tank was pretty useless actually. It took a long time before it reloaded and you couldn't kill that many enemies with it at once. You could make something so that the tank will search for a target and then fires automaticly without having to press space and reloads a lot quicker.

Anyway, overall I'd give this game 6 out of 10, 3 out of 5. It deserves a higher score I think. I saw that you had to make this in a certain time period cause your friend told you, so I think you should resubmit, cause it has some potential. I hope you'll make an Save The Village 2 someday and hopefully you've added some of my ideas in it as well then =) Well keep it up and good luck with any other future projects.
